Latest Traveler Review: The Tombs is a Georgetown hangout with a rather large menu that, as one person once said, is "too good for bar food." It shares a kitchen (I think) with its upstairs neighbor, the upscale 1789, and you'll find some pretty good food downstairs...sometimes.When it gets a bit busy, the service drops off a bit and things can taste a bit "too prepared." When the kitchen is firing on all cylindars though, I've found the food to be very good, and strongly recommend a milkshake to finish it off as they are quite good.After 9 the place turns into a bar, although the kitchen is open to midnight. The "ambience" and community of gtown students was the basis for St. Elmos Fire, the movie, but the actual bar in the movie was somewhere else.
