Latest Traveler Review: Don't ask me why this place is so popular! The food is average and presented without imagination. The service is on a par with that found in any American Restaurant Chain. Our server (who must have been about 18 years old) could only recommend that we get white wine with fish and red wine with anything else. Perhaps our expectations were too high after reading good things about the place in popular travel guides. We also were influenced by it's lofty position as one of D.C.s Top 100 restaurants by a restaurant reviewer. I found myself speculating that this reviewer had only been to 100 restaurants in D.C. and gave them all a favorable review. My first clue of pending disappointment came with the wine list that was laminated in plastic. My second clue was when I noticed that a neighboring table had a supplemental menu that was not provided to us. At first I thought that maybe one had to be a "regular" to receive the evenings specials and that somehow we had been identified as tourists who would never be back anyway. I soon discovered however, that our hostess had simply overlooked presenting us with our full dining options. As to the food, be warned....the taste does not match the mouth-watering description provided on the menu. Mediocre is the best description I can give it. I can only believe that it's popularity has more to do with reasonable prices than a quality dining experience. We were so anxious to get out of there that we didn't even order coffee or dessert. We just got the impression that they were doing so much business that they no longer had the incentive to care about their reputation.
